Microsoft will stop sending security bulletins and security advisories to people via emails. Microsoft on Friday said it would shut down its email notification service for security warnings from July 1, 2014. Security administrators who want to know about security advisories should instead subscribe to RSS feeds from the firm. These feeds can be accessed from the Microsoft website.
This communication was sent to everyone who had opted for alert about Microsoft’s new security advisories, latest security bulletins and for its monthly patch updates. Microsoft told the mailing list’s members that as of July 1, 2014, due to changing governmental policies concerning the issuance of automated electronic messaging, it is suspending the use of email notifications.

According to this email, the Microsoft is “suspending” the use of emails to send security updates to people. It hints that Microsoft may resume the service at a later point.
Some also relate this with the new Canadian anti-spam law which comes into effect on July 1st, 2014. This anti-spam law has been posted on the Canadian government’s website. Seems like, Microsoft does not want to violate the Canadian law, which includes a fine of up to $10 million — as per the details of the law.
