Cryptocurrency has slowly started to gain the attention of the masses and is becoming mainstream by the day. However, crypto scams have picked up pace and its operators are burning a hole in digital wallets.
Current Day Scenario –
Recently, a massive crypto scam was targeted towards BTS fans on Twitter. A scam known as Adorable Representative MC for Youth (ARMY), started showing up on the timelines of BTS fans with cryptocurrency-related posts, for a time period of little over two weeks.
Some of these accounts were being tagged in giveaways to random users. After an investigation, the problem that revealed itself was that a majority of these accounts had permeated genuine Twitter handles and diverted followers to their accounts.
What does this mean?
Every ARMY-related post was replaced with crypto posts, while some ARMY accounts were found to have been sold to questionable cryptocurrency accounts. K-pop fans have found themselves in the crosshairs of scammers who are looking for easy targets.

- According to a recent report published by researchers, a campaign that can avoid detection has been launched by the operators of a cryptocurrency botnet. Bitcoin transactions are being exploited by these cybercriminals to execute illegal cryptomining activities.
- A Monero cryptojacking malware called WatchDog, was spotted running undetected for more than two years.
- The Lazarus group was found using the AppleJeus malware for cryptocurrency theft.
In recent years, there has been a huge disruption in the threat landscape by the onslaught of constant crypto-related scams and attacks. This needs to be dedicatedly stopped since it sabotages both individuals and businesses alike.
