Extortion spam emails have raked in INR 1.5 Crore since August 2018: eScan
Although Bitcoin has been the most volatile in the past few years, yet this has not deterred the criminals from collecting bits from the Bitcoins. When we talk about extortion, we have seen the emergence and effectiveness of Ransomware using Bitcoins and other forms of crypto-currencies. We have also seen Crypto-Currency Miner (sic.Monero) being deployed on hacked servers/systems, so as to take advantage of the computational resources and generate crypto-currencies. However, lately, we have seen a rising trend in extortion emails, asking for Bitcoins.

Google+ to shut down after bug exposed personal data
Tech giant Google is shutting down its social networking site Google+ after a technical glitch was found to have compromised accounts and personal information of over 500,000 of its users. The announcement in this regard was made by Ben Smith, Google Fellow and vice-president of engineering, in a blog post-Monday, in which he noted that the company, headed by an Indian American, could not confirm which users were impacted by the Google+ bug.

Android users beware: a New virus called OwnMe stealing your data
A new virus is roaming the internet, specifically targeting Android users. The malware, known as OwnMe, enters your phone secretly through downloaded apps. As soon as the virus enters your phone, it starts stealing an individual’s personal data. Fortunately, an antivirus company has found out about OwnMe and has said that it affects WhatsApp the most.

WhatsApp fixed bug that let hackers break into video calls
WhatsApp has understood to have fixed a bug in its Android and iOS mobile app that allowed the hackers to let the app crash during incoming video calls. According to a report in ZDNet on Wednesday, Facebook-owned WhatsApp, which has over 1.5 billion users, fixed the vulnerability this week. It is yet to be known how many users were affected. The company is yet to issue a statement on this.
