Are you someone who tries to charge your mobile for public charging ports while you travel? Then you should know what is Juice Jacking. Cybercriminals use these public charging ports (typically over USB.) to inject malware into the users’ device. They even steal data or take complete control of your device. Many users are unaware of this attack possibility and use this charging port carelessly to charge their personal devices like mobile phones and laptops.
It is said that Juice jacking cannot be executed through the AC adapter that is shipped with the device. It can neither infect through, a battery backup device, or a USB cable without it data cables. A tool called SyncStop has been introduced that can be primarily used to prevent data connections over a USB cable.
The best way to protect your device from being victimized by this attack is
- Turn off the feature of data transfer while charging on your device
- Do not use a cable that has both charging and data transfer facilities on public port. Use the charge only cables instead
- Try to use a power bank while traveling
- Switch off your cell-phone while charging it on a public port
